Fitness with a Healthy Eating Plan

Some people define fitness by numbers, their abs or number of visits to the gym. After 16 years working with professional athletes at The Pure Package, we know that for longevity it’s important to get your workout combination right.  Fitness is all about balance and recognising the connection between a healthy body and a healthy mind.

Fitness is not defined by numbers on the scale. We believe the body is an engine and that you need to take care of it. This means feeding it with nourishing food in order to perform at the best of your ability, both mentally and physically. We all know the phrase, ‘if you don’t use it you lose it’, but it’s a balancing act so it’s important to listen to your body as too much of anything can cause tension and joint complications

The secret to excelling is to find exercise you both enjoy and that reaps benefits. We have found that if our clients do intense HIIT training then we encourage them to balance this with something like regular massages or yoga to calm and focus the body and mind. Importantly, the social connections one can make whilst partaking in an adrenaline boosting workout can be very rewarding by increasing our happiness and reducing stress.

 

Eat at the right time and remember to stay hydrated

It’s logical to refrain from eating a heavy meal right before a high intensity exercise session but it’s also important to make sure that you are adequately fueled throughout. Likewise, we advise that you pre-prepare healthy post workout snacks to begin the refueling process. A practical approach is to consume a protein and carbohydrate rich snack to replace lost energy and enhance muscle synthesis. Additionally, hydration can be overlooked in terms of exercise performance, so we recommend sipping on filtered water throughout the day. It’s good to remember that if you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated.
