What’s on our Menu?

Autumn, abundant with the freshest and tastiest produce, is the perfect time to start The Pure Package. Here are five fantastic ingredients our nutritionists and chefs are featuring in our plans right now.

Pumpkin/Squash

These vegetables are packed with vitamins A and B-complex (including riboflavin, niacin, thiamin and pyridoxine), and high in anti-oxidants, making them essential for glowing skin, a healthy immune system and good brain-function. As well as being low in calories, and with no dietary fat or cholesterol, they are also a rich source of dietary fibre and phyto-nutrients. Their seeds are a great source of protein and amino acids.

Oily Fish

One of the best sources of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which fortify the immune system, and help bolster organs weakened by disease or sickness. Mackerel in particular is celebrated for it’s high density of vitamin B12, and selenium-both known for their positive impact on immunity, and for effective thyroid gland function.

Beetroot

Beetroot’s value lies not only in the root, but also in the leaves. The root is an excellent source of folic acid and fibre, as well as being packed with anti-oxidants (it truly is a “rainbow” food!), while the leaves are rich in calcium, iron and vitamins A & C. This is one ingredient to turn to help ward off common winter ailments such as colds and flu.

English Apples

Does anything say “Autumn” quite like a tart, crisp, English apple? Small but perfectly formed, these fruits are packed with soluble fibre, vitamins C and B-complex, and beta-carotene, and are an excellent source of anti-oxidants. Good not only for keeping the doctor away, but for promoting clear skin, strong bones, and a healthy immune system!

Wild mushrooms

Next to apples, wild mushrooms really embody the taste of Autumn. Earthy, rich and succulent, mushrooms are a great source of B vitamins-in particular vitamin B12, making them a great food choice for vegans and vegetarians. They are also a good protein option, are high in potassium and phosphorus, and are the only vegan dietary source of vitamin D. They are rich in anti-oxidants (particularly choline). For this reason, shiitake mushrooms are used in Chinese medicine for the treatment of a weakened immune system!
