From uber-cool rooftop clubs, to luxury spas and bucolic hideaways, when it comes to al-fresco swimming, London has it all.
Here are some of our favourites:
The Berkeley Hotel, Wilton Place, London SW3: If you’re planning a summer’s day of pampering, look no further than this oasis of calm right in the heart of Knightsbridge. The professional and dedicated staff at the renowned Berkeley Spa will help melt away any stresses, before you head up to the 7th floor for a dip in their sparkling roof-top pool. And if you can’t quite face the world after that, squirrel yourself away in their secret rooftop garden with a delicious lunch from their extensive menu.
Shoreditch House, Ebor Street, London E1: Ok, so you have to be a member or know someone kind enough to invite you in, but don’t let that stop you! Beg, borrow or… butter-up to get to this hippest of London splash-spots. While you may want to explore all the amenities of this exclusive club (including a barber, gardens, and several bars), we recommend simply lounging by the pool, taking in the views of East London and distant Canary Wharf.
Hampstead Heath Ponds: North London’s finest rambling spot is home to three swimming spots – the Men’s, the Ladies’, and the Mixed Ponds. Where else can you get off the tube and be splashing with swans fifteen minutes later?
Oasis Sports Centre, 32 Endell Street, London WC2H: This sports club might look relatively non-descript from the outside, but it conceals an inner-city gem: London’s only all-year, heated outdoor swimming pool. It’s not huge, but when you’re faced with a day in the sweltering City, it’s perfect for a cooling dip. (Note: membership fees apply.)
