Our Best Healthy Hummus Recipes, Just in Time for Summer

Quick, easy, tasty and healthy – Hummus is one of our favourite dishes to make and there are so many different flavours you can add to it, too. Try it with a salad, as a dip/snack, with chicken, falafel… it’s so versatile the list is practically endless.

The primary ingredient (chickpea) is a great low fat source of protein, dietary fibre and iron, which is why we really like to use them as part of our gourmet diet delivery menus.

We picked out a few of our best hummus recipes for you to enjoy, just in time for those summer barbecues – check them out below.

Traditional Hummus Recipe with Tahini
Lebanese or Israeli? Either way, this is a yummy and simple version of the standard, traditional hummus, which only takes 20 minutes to make. We like it best served with crackers (we love Dr Karb’s seeded spelt crisp bread) or fresh carrot/cucumber sticks.

Ingredients:
  • 400g chickpeas, canned are fine, reserve some liquid for blending
  • 40g tahini (sesame paste)
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 50ml olive oil
  • A pinch of ground cumin and paprika
  • A squeeze of lemon

Preparation:

  1. Put all ingredients into a blender, and blend until smooth.
  2. Add some of the reserved chickpea liquid bit by bit until you have the desired consistency.
  3. Season with some cracked black pepper.

Lemon & Coriander Healthy Hummus
Zingy, fresh and really good – place a dollop on top of one of our gourmet diet delivery chicken salads.


Ingredients:

  • 400g chickpeas, canned again and reserve some liquid for blending
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • A big handful of chopped fresh coriander
  • 40g tahini
  • 50ml olive oil

 

Preparation:

  1. Put all ingredients into a blender, and blend until smooth.
  2. Add some of the reserved chickpea liquid bit by bit until you have the consistency you like.
  3. Season with some cracked black pepper.

Mediterranean Hummus
Just add sun-dried tomatoes to give this healthy hummus recipe a lovely Mediterranean flavour. It goes really well with raw sugar snaps or falafel.

 

Ingredients

  • 8 sun-dried tomatoes in oil, reserve the oil for blending
  • 400g chickpeas, canned again and reserve some liquid for blending
  • Juice of 1 lemons
  • 40g tahini

 

Preparation:

  1. Put all ingredients into a blender, and blend until smooth.
  2. Add some of the reserved tomato oil bit by bit until you have the consistency you fancy.
  3. Season with some cracked black pepper.
